Tara from Cashton: I love going to the Driftless Cafe for absolutely anything on their menu or Wonder State Coffee for a bagel and lox. I also love strolling the main drag of Viroqua and Westby looking for treasures.

Adam from Driftless Tribe: Unfortunately, the Westby Ski Jump was cancelled & I was not able to attend. This coming weekend, I will be in Mount Horeb at the Scandihoovian Winter Festival. This will be a first for me!

The Westby Ski Jump: A Century-Old Tradition
Each year, the Westby Ski Jump at Snowflake Ski Club brings world-class ski jumpers to the Driftless Region, drawing crowds for the annual winter spectacle. As one of the largest ski jumps in the Midwest, its Olympic-sized HS-118 hill has been a proving ground for top athletes from around the world. The annual Snowflake Ski Jump Tournament is a can’t-miss event, blending fierce competition with a lively atmosphere of tailgating, bonfires, and community spirit.
The tournament is also one of the only night ski jumping events in the U.S., with competitors soaring under powerful floodlights, creating a breathtaking winter scene.
The Snowflake Ski Club was founded in 1922, making it one of the oldest continuously operating ski clubs in the country. Westby’s deep Norwegian roots helped shape the event, as early ski jumpers were largely Norwegian immigrants bringing their love for the sport to the Midwest.
Over the years, the tournament has welcomed international competitors from Norway, Finland, Germany, and other ski-jumping powerhouses, making it a true global event. Jumpers launch off the takeoff at speeds of 55-60 mph, soaring as far as 300 feet!
Unfortunately, this year’s competition was canceled due to high winds and safety concerns on Saturday. However, that didn’t stop the party—the tailgating and festivities carried on, true to the event’s reputation as one of the best winter tailgates in Wisconsin.
Even when ski jumping isn’t happening, the community still comes together around bonfires, brats, and Wisconsin hospitality. The entire event is run by volunteers, with local families and businesses working hard each year to maintain the jump, prepare the hill, and keep this century-old tradition alive.
While it was disappointing to miss out on the competition, I’m already marking this event on my 2026 attend list, and I highly recommend adding it to yours. If you haven’t experienced the excitement of ski jumping up close, Westby is the perfect place to start!
