Finding Rest in the Driftless
Some weeks, life slows down whether you like it or not. This past week, pneumonia had me down for the count, turning my week into a blur of cough drops, tea, and trying to get some real rest. The newsletter is landing in your inbox a little later than usual, but I wasn’t about to let a rough week keep me from sending it out. If nothing else, being forced to pause is a good reminder to appreciate good health, slow days, and the simple comforts of life.

Exploring Winona: A Driftless Gem
If you’ve never made the trip to Winona, consider this your sign. Tucked along the Mississippi River and surrounded by the bluffs that define this region, Winona, Minnesota is one of those places where history, nature, and small-town charm all come together in the best way. It’s the definition of “take the scenic route”.
I had the chance to chat with Kate Carlson from Visit Winona, and we both agreed—there’s a natural connection between what we’re doing here at Driftless Tribe and the stories Winona has to tell. From vibrant arts and music festivals to its deep-rooted river culture, Winona has a way of pulling you in.
Take the Great River Road into town, and you’ll find a community with a rich past, shaped by the industries of the Mississippi and the people who call this place home. You’ll see historic architecture, bustling local businesses, and a love for the outdoors that runs deep. Whether you’re hiking up to Garvin Heights for an unbeatable river view, exploring the Minnesota Marine Art Museum, or catching live music at one of the many venues around town, Winona delivers something special in every season.
